Relieving Pain. Restoring Hope.

Question and Answer

Here are common questions asked at Desert Pain Specialists, if you have a question that is not on this list, feel free to give us a call today!

How soon can I get an appointment?

Desert Pain is open Monday through Friday and can usually book patients for same-day or next-day consultations. Depending on the complexity of their pain issues, the visit can be adjusted to give them more time with a physician. At Desert Pain, patients spend less  time in the lobby and more time receiving face-to-face care. The typical wait time at any location is averaging just five minutes. We want our patients to feel like they’re not just a number here.

What should I bring to my initial consultation?

Patients are asked to bring their driver’s license, medication list, and insurance cards to their first appointment. A new patient form will be required before your first consultation. We are happy to walk you through it; click here to send a message for assistance. If you plan on printing and filling out paperwork, please arrive 30 minutes early to the appointment.

What kind of cost can I expect for my appointment?

Desert Pain accepts all major insurance providers and employs an extensive team of billing specialists to ensure procedures are billed properly. Our clinic takes pride in excellent communication with both patients and insurance companies to ensure there are no surprises along the way.

What insurances do you accept?

We have partnerships with a wide range of major insurance plans, including Medicare, Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, DMBA, EMI, GEHA, Humana, Meritain, Motiv, Molina, Medicaid (AZ/NV/UT), PEHP, Select Health, Tricare, United Health Care, VA, Workers Compensation, and more.

Even if your insurance isn’t listed, it doesn’t mean you can’t receive care at our clinic. Reach out to us today for a personalized that suits your needs. Your health matters to us.

What if I don’t have insurance?

When seeking pain relief, the last thing patients should have to worry about is being able to afford treatment. That’s why Desert Pain offers one of the most affordable cash-pay models of any pain clinic. Pricing is based on Medicare reimbursement, resulting in lower payments for uninsured and underinsured patients. We don’t discriminate , and we don’t charge more or less based on somebody’s situation. We provide equitable and affordable care.

How can I access my records?

Desert Pain provides quick, easy access to medical records within the patient portal. Patients can also view the results of tests and imaging scans, and see progress notes from their provider. Patients may register with their email address or by connecting their Facebook or Google account. The portal is available 24/7.

Do you prescribe medical cannabis?

Specific providers at Desert Pain prescribe medical cannabis as a supplemental treatment option for many different chronic pain syndromes, including fibromyalgia, arthritis, inflammatory conditions and autoimmune disorders. For some patients, it reduces the amount of pain medication they require.

Cannabis is not a one-size-fits-all solution for pain, however. A discussion with your provider will help you gain a better understanding of the potential benefits and risks of its use.

“We’re here to answer questions, “Even if the patient isn’t 100% sure they want to try it, we can just have a consultation and see if it’s a viable option for them.”

What specialized conditions can you treat?

The board-certified physicians and advanced practice providers at Desert Pain treat all types of acute and chronic pain, including back pain, neck pain, abdominal pain, sciatica, sports injuries, migraines and neuropathy. In some cases, minimally invasive care options can help patients delay or avoid surgery and regain function of the afflicted area.

The clinic stands apart for its ability to address the complete spectrum of spine conditions, including spinal stenosis. Desert Pain recently introduced spinal cord stimulation as a cutting-edge therapy for peripheral neuropathy in diabetic patients.

Not every pain clinic dives into medical cannabis, spinal cord stimulation, or even pain injections. We’re broadening the horizon of pain treatment.

How do I get in touch with a provider?

Call 435-216-7000 during business hours to speak with your provider’s medical assistant. Patients may also contact their provider through the online patient portal.

Desert Pain has created a network of providers throughout the area to connect patients with experts who can further their healing beyond the treatment of pain, including surgeons, neurologists, nutritionists and behavioral health therapists.

Do you have social workers?

Desert Pain employs licensed clinic worker Marilla Garcia to help patients navigate the challenges of living with chronic pain. It’s becoming more common for pain clinics to have social workers on staff to provide coping strategies, mindfulness techniques, and resources for treating the emotional imbalances that often accompany pain disorders.

It’s important to look at mental health and overall health- not just the physical aspect of the patient but all aspects that can be affected by chronic pain. Social Workers provide a broader scope of tools that patients can utilize to combat their pain without having to rely solely on medications.
