Parosmia/ Anosmia

Distorted taste or smell (parosmia) or lack of taste or smell (anosmia) has long been described in the medical literature as a potential consequence of an infection by a respiratory tract virus.  However, it was not until the rapid and near-universal spread of the COVID-19 infection that these adverse lasting effects became well-known and better characterized.  Parosmia is a very disruptive condition, and millions worldwide suffer from this distorted sense of smell.  The British Medical Journal stated in April of 2022 that “there are currently no effective, evidence-based treatments for patients with parosmia.”  We could not disagree anymore.  Here at Desert Pain Specialists, we have helped hundreds of individuals recover from parosmia and anosmia.  We offer a targeted, image-guided injection of the stellate ganglion nerve bundle in the neck that helps to facilitate the smell and taste re-training.
