Dr. Empey is fellowship trained in interventional pain medicine, which he completed at the world-famous Mayo Clinic in both Scottsdale, Arizona, and Rochester, Minnesota.
A native of St. George, Utah, he graduated from Dixie High School and Dixie College, then earned a Bachelor of Biochemistry at the University of Utah with honors.An honor graduate of George Washington University, he received his Medical Doctorate there and returned to the University of Utah for an internal medicine internship and a medical anesthesiology residency.

He has been involved in pain research, publishing a peer-reviewed paper on NIH funding patterns in pain research and another evaluating the biochemistry and function of flagellar motors.Dr. Empey has spent countless hours volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, coaching youth sports, and serving in his church. He enjoys time with his wife and five children, waterskiing, snowboarding, shooting hoops, and playing guitar.
