For many living with chronic pain, finding effective care can feel like a long and exhausting journey.
Desert Pain Specialists Clinic Director Halle Fisher said the goal is to make that experience feel more manageable from the moment a patient walks through the door. Fisher said the culture at Desert Pain is compassionate, supportive and genuinely patient-centered.
“We’ve worked very intentionally to create an environment where both patients and staff feel valued, respected and cared for,” she said.
Many patients arrive after months or even years of persistent pain, often carrying both physical and emotional strain. What sets the clinic apart is the level of care the team extends not only to patients but to one another.
“We want every patient to feel like more than just a number or an appointment on the schedule,” she said.
Before becoming clinical director, Fisher worked as Dr. Court Empey’s medical assistant, where a simple piece of guidance left a lasting impression. He often reminded staff to treat every patient the way they would treat their own grandparents, a philosophy that continues to shape the clinic’s approach to care.
When hiring, Desert Pain prioritizes compassion alongside clinical skill, seeking team members who are positive, approachable and genuinely invested in patient well-being. Fisher said that kind of environment is something patients can feel.
For those dealing with chronic pain, the impact often reaches far beyond physical symptoms, affecting emotional health, relationships and daily life. That broader reality shapes how care is delivered at the clinic.
“We understand that sometimes what patients need most is compassion, reassurance and someone who genuinely cares about helping them improve their quality of life,” she said. “From the front desk to the providers, our goal is to create an environment where patients feel comfortable, respected and hopeful about their care moving forward.”
As the St. George-area clinic has grown, so have its services and resources. Even with that expansion, maintaining a strong sense of connection has remained a priority. Fisher said many patients come in during difficult moments, making personal interaction essential from the first visit forward.
“I think one of the things that has allowed us to continue growing successfully is the strong culture within our clinic,” she said. “Our team genuinely cares about our patients and about one another, and that commitment to compassionate care continues to guide everything we do as we evolve with the needs of Southern Utah.”
Teamwork plays a central role in that effort. Physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants and support staff communicate closely to coordinate care. Providers collaborate on treatment plans, discuss complex cases and keep patients informed throughout the process, while front office and clinical teams focus on making each interaction smooth and welcoming.
At every step, the focus remains on ensuring patients feel heard, respected and supported.
“I hope they remember the warmth of our staff, the compassion of our providers and the feeling that everyone here truly wanted to help improve their quality of life,” she said. “More than anything, I want them to leave feeling hopeful, comfortable and confident that they are in good hands.”
