As Southern Utah prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, Desert Pain Specialists is helping support one of the region’s largest patriotic traditions as a sponsor of the annual 99.9 KONY Country Fourth of July Celebration in St. George.
For the locally founded practice, sponsoring the event is about more than fireworks and festivities. It’s an opportunity to support the community and values that have shaped both the nation and Southern Utah.
“We love our country,” Dr. Nate Clements told St. George News. “We love our community. We like to support events like this that allow the community to come together and honor our country.”
That commitment to community runs deep at Desert Pain Specialists. Founded in St. George, the practice employs more than 100 local residents and remains dedicated to serving the region where it was built.
“This is the greatest country that’s ever been born on the face of the earth,” Dr. Steven Larsen said. “And it’s a privilege to be from here. We also want to do anything we can to support the values and the traditions that have upheld our country for 250 years.”
While the clinic is proud of its local roots, both physicians said the organization’s mission begins with patient care.
“At the end of the day, we’re patient-centric,” Larsen said. “We’re focused on managing patients’ needs from the moment they walk in the door.”
For Clements, pain management is about more than lowering a number on a pain scale. It’s about helping patients preserve their mobility, independence and quality of life so they can continue doing the things they enjoy most, whether that’s hiking, biking, riding all-terrain vehicles or playing pickleball, tennis or golf.
That individualized approach extends to every aspect of treatment. Rather than relying on standardized protocols, Desert Pain Specialists develops care plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs and goals.
Larsen said one of the clinic’s greatest strengths is the breadth of services available under one roof.
“What sets us apart is the comprehensiveness,” Larsen said. “A patient can walk in the door and essentially have any service that’s available in the pain relief space. You can get the same treatment options here that you can get at Stanford or Hopkins.”
The clinic offers everything from medication management to advanced interventional procedures designed to target pain at its source. As pain management continues to evolve, providers stay current on emerging technologies and treatment options, including minimally invasive procedures, spinal fusions, peripheral nerve stimulation and newer techniques for treating conditions involving the sacroiliac joint.
Desert Pain Specialists treats a wide range of conditions affecting patients throughout Southern Utah. Clements said the most common include neck, mid-back and lower back pain, joint pain, peripheral nerve injuries, abdominal pain, persistent headaches and complex regional pain syndrome.
The clinic also strives to make care accessible to as many patients as possible. Desert Pain Specialists accepts all major insurance plans, including Medicaid, and offers affordable cash-pay pricing designed to help patients with high-deductible insurance plans.
Larsen said pricing is largely based on Medicare reimbursement rates.
“So essentially, a cash patient gets treated like a Medicare patient, which doesn’t happen that often that I know of,” Larsen said. “So that sets us apart.”
>For people living with chronic pain who feel they have run out of options, Clements encourages seeking a second opinion.
Patients who may have felt dismissed in the past should not hesitate to explore another perspective, as a fresh set of eyes can sometimes identify treatment opportunities that were previously overlooked.
Larsen agreed, noting that many patients continue to suffer because they have not received an accurate diagnosis or treatment plan that properly addresses the source of their pain.
Desert Pain Specialists prides itself on thinking outside the box while offering innovative, up-to-date treatment options that help patients regain function and improve their quality of life.
Above all, the clinic remains committed to ensuring every patient has a positive experience from their first visit through every step of treatment.
As Southern Utah gathers to celebrate the nation’s 250-year legacy of freedom and opportunity, Desert Pain Specialists continues to invest in the community it calls home. Through its commitment to comprehensive care, innovative treatment options and a patient-first approach, the locally founded practice hopes to help more people reclaim the freedom to live active, fulfilling lives.
