
Shayla Barrett, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC
Shayla was born and raised in St. George, Utah. She began her academic journey at Utah Tech University, where she earned her associate degree with high honors and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing magna cum laude. Shortly after completing her BSN, Shayla moved to South Florida with her husband to attend the University of Miami, where she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2025. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Her doctoral scholarly project, “Improving Postoperative Outcomes in Pituitary Surgery Patients Through Effective Preoperative Education”, emphasized the critical role of patient education, empowerment, and advocacy in improving health outcomes and preventing complications.
Throughout her career as both a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner, Shayla has worked in addiction medicine within medication-assisted treatment (MAT) clinics. In this setting, she has cared for patients with complex medical needs, including those experiencing acute and chronic pain. This experience has strengthened her ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care while balancing effective pain management with safe prescribing practices. She is passionate about helping patients improve their quality of life and is excited about her new career in pain management.
Outside of work, Shayla enjoys being outdoors, practicing archery, exercising, and cooking.
